Lr 5.7 to Lr CC path?
« on: April 21, 2015, 08:52:42 pm »

So I have the Adobe Photoshop package (Lr and PsCC2014) but don't use the LRCC version and (currently) use my stand alone copy of Lr 5.7.

How difficult is it to the switch over to LrCC without disrupting my existing workflow?

Install LR CC, open it and select your catalog, it will prompt you to make a "new" catalog compatible with CC and your done.Your old catalog can still be opened with LR 5.7 if you want.  I assume if you save out and read in .xmp sidecar files, any changes in one version will show up in the other (without any history). Only challenge there might be if you've used a brush on a graduated or radial filter, which LR 5.7 doesn't handle.

Well, LR CC (and 6) will require a catalog update....it saves your 5.x catalog and does the update to CC/6.

Note, the catalog for CC/6 is interchangeable so if you want to mix and match between CC and 6 perceptual you can.

Just an added note:  If you want to run LR6 perpetual you will need to run it under an Adobe ID that is not associated with a CC subscription.  Otherwise the installer will automatically run the software as LR CC.

That sounds good but what about established  presets, collections, etc. Will those be respected?

Yes

Actually, I think that depends on whether or not you are storing the presets with the catalog. If you do, no problemo, if not I think you'll need to manually transfer them.

My presets are not in the catalog and Lr CC picked them up just fine.  Mac OS X 10.10.3

Thank you Ron, and again thank you the tip about signing out and then signing back in to Adobe CC in the "Lightroom 6 Install Problem - Resolved" thread.
