Adobe now has the new Adobe Lightroom CC on the Website:

And it will all soon hit the fan. LR6 is the last standalone version - new features won't come to it, only CC.

Anyone else feel ... underwhelmed?

Not that the new features aren't welcome, of course, but I would have expected something more, I dunno, visionary, after almost two years.

Instead we get a podge of features from other programs that are either long overdue (such as face recog., performance increase) or borderline useful (HDR and pano no longer require a host program, which is nice, I guess, if you don't have PS or Elements).

Really? Where does Adobe say that? If so, I have to do some rethinking about this...

It's on Kelby's site in the Q&A:

Forgive me if I avoid any and everything to do with Kelby.
I may have initially misread what you wrote as this is nothing new. Now, that said, LR5 will not get any upgrades either and that's expected. LR7 however should be available as an upgrade just like LR6 was to LR5. So I don't know why this should hit the fan.
LR will continue to be a perpetual license, we're not forced into subscription and if we wish new features, we must upgrade as was the case since day one.

How do you install this? I have Creative Cloud but when I try to update it says it's installing Lightroom 5???
Same on this end. I suspect it is a rolling update as not to down the CC severs?

I don't know where you see stand alone LR6. All I see is CC options.  It says "Buy Now", but it should say "Vaseline free Rentals Now".

regardless, I am glad I purchased all the other Dev apps like DxO, Capture1, and a few others, as that will sadly be my LAST application besides Acrobat that I would have with Adobe.
I don't need their stupid surprise when the time does come that they wish to have it CC only.

Anyone have a link to LR6 purchase? I don't see it at all on the Adobe sight.

This may be true. There may well be a LR7 as a standalone version.

But Kelby's note suggests there will be no LR6.1 and no new camera support, except in the CC version.

Not sure about LR7... that it is up to Adobe to do, but I will be quite surprise if LR6.x versions are not free for people that bought LR6 as stand-alone license, since many of those version are bugfixes and new lenses support (some new features come from time to time). After all, they are doing something similar with Camara Raw for Photoshop CS6.

What he suggests isn't of interest to me. It makes zero sense for Adobe to release a perpetual license without dot releases. It's never happened before. AFAIK for ANY Adobe product. New features? OK, I'm on board with that, LR6 perpetual will not get them. Bug fixes, new camera support? Been done since day one.
Now, if someone inside Adobe writes that LR6 is and always remains fixed as it was released today, no bug releases, no camera releases, yes the poop will hit the fan.

Kelby's quote does not mention new camera support. Which is why we need to track down the actual policy statement from Adobe.

We need Adobe's official statement. Kelby does not exclude bug fixes. But he does specifically say enhancements. Is new camera support an enhancement? We'll see...

Edit: link doesn't work so you need to find your way from the Lightroom page… scroll down at the bottom of the page…

This again is typical Kelby speak that someone at Adobe should have looked over. And if it's a copy and paste from Adobe, shame on them. No new enhancements (features) makes total sense. We've seen that from day one as I wrote. The statement as presented by Kelby IS a good excuse for the Adobe haters to get out the axes and pitchforks when, the reality is probably the same as we've seen since day one: there will be dot releases and new camera support, no new features. How darn hard would it have been for Kelby and maybe Adobe to state this? IOW gang, nothing new here, don't get alarmed, don't suggest the poop will hit the fan. As presented by the first and I suspect largest source of info, Kelby, that's exactly what appears to be happening.

Upgrades to LR6 (perpetual) are apparently only available directly from Adobe via download, like they did with PS CS6.  $79 as before.

This begs a question. My LR5 is perpetual but I also have the full CC subscription. So I think I'll wait till tonight to see if indeed, CC will provide an upgrade.
