Come on Girls, I Can't Hold This Pose Forever

The male egrets and herons are the initial nest builders...really all they do is place a few sticks together and then woo for a female by lifting their head and arching way back, feathers all spread out......which is their way of saying they are available. After they score a mate, the male then brings more nesting material but the female is the one who builds the nest.

Amazing shot, Chris. Surely one of your best yet (of a very fine assortment).

No doubt thanks to you, Eric, and your "instructions to model" cheatsheet
Ok, Chris, the cigar is yours this time.

Splendid! Great behavioral shot that shows the feature (specialized feathers for display) that almost made this bird extinct around the early 1900s.

This guy was working it so hard, it seemed a shame not to take the shot. Thanks all.

Absolutely love the composition. I'd give this one high marks for both originality and aesthetics. Certainly makes you think that even creatures with less intelligence than ourselves have a need to express beauty.

I don't think they have a need to express beauty, other than instinctually, as much as to get laid....and as to intelligence, theese birds are exceptionally cunning hunters and nest builders which to me expresses a very high level of intelligence.
