On A Knife Edge
« on: April 13, 2015, 04:59:30 am »

Perched high above the crashing ocean huge cliffs drop off to either side , balanced on a knife edge , tripod locked only marginally in place I waited the dawn of a new day.

Nugget point is a spectacular place to visit, in some ways an easy place to shoot, but in others not so!

You dont get many chances to shoot such a location with great light and a long exposure like this!

That's a remarkable shot. I think the results mitigate the effort and risk involved.
The only downside is I find my eye drawn to the brightness of the sun more than the wonderful landscape. Still I guess that's the nature of the beast and there's not much you can do about it. The Sun is always going to be the brightest object in the sky.

This is spectacular. A slight infilling of yellow on the burn out area would be beneficial. A purist might think it is a little unrealistic but imo perfectly fine.

Lovely, Rob.
Now if you could only move that sun over to our right so it is right at the tip of the knife edge...   :D

This works well for me.

Do you think there's a time of year where the degree of the sunrise matches the lighthouses night edge?  Guess it shouldn't be too hard to calculate.  What's the date this picture was taken?

Fantastic. I like the difference of the sea from the left to the right hand side of the cliffs, due to the changing light. It's like "day light" on the left, and still night light on the right.

Incredible photo. As others have commented, it will look amazing as a large print.

What a great way to start the day! in silence ...just you, the sun and your camera...
In the other image you shared taking earlier i noticed the light house not functioning? or was it already too light? just curious.

The lighthouse was working in the other one, you can just about make out the light beams. For some reason they are using really small and not so bright lights. We were shooting past sunset the other side of the lighthouse a few days before and couldnt believe that was it. We thought it was broken...
