The saga continues…
ColorMunki Photo and Design are ingenuous spectrophotometers designed to create colour management profiles for displays, printers, and digital projectors using one device.
X–Rite have only recently updated their Apple Mac OSX compatible software for the ColorMunki ‘Photo’ and ‘Design’ from version 1.1.1 (mid 2010) to 1.2.1 (late 2014). This they claim was to improve functionality under OSX Mavericks but it also fixed a long standing problem which meant that the targets printed to build a printer profile were not accurate. This appears to have been resolved in the new software.
However…
X–Rite European Technical Support have now confirmed that there is a bug in 1.2.1 of the OSX ColorMunki software which means that it will not produce accurate and usable display profiles under all versions of Apple OSX.
Thus you can accurately profile a display in version 1.1.1 of the ColorMunki software but not a printer; or you can accurately profile a printer in version 1.2.1 of the software but not a display. You cannot profile both in either version.
European Technical Support have stated that X–Rite may provide a fix but it is not guaranteed; nor is it not a priority for them.
Words fail me at this point (well, actually they don’t but none of it is postable).
(I should emphasise that this only effects Apple Mac users – Windows users rejoice)
