« on: April 05, 2015, 11:49:44 pm »

I'm going to be taking a few extra days in the palouse region. Are ther any other areas near there that are recommended ? I was thinking of turnbull refuge.

Turnbull is pretty boring.

Do a search on Channeled Scablands National Park.......click on images.  This will give you an idea of the landscape.

This is the FIRST general guidebook that I have seen for sale on the Channeled Scablands!!

http://www.mountaineersbooks.org/Washingtons-Channeled-Scablands-Guide-P944.aspx

You can also search Ice Age Floods and eastern Washington for more information on the area.

I do have lots of posts on the channeled scablands country on my blog....but you have to search around the Washington state postings to find them.

Start here: http://usbackroads.blogspot.com/2011/05/blog-summary-washington-destinations.html

The country does not get much use outside of hunting and fishing season.  This time of year, be careful and look out for rattlesnakes and ticks.

I have spent a lot of time in the Palouse.  One of my favorite spots and know a ton of locations and folks that have givine permission to use their property.  However I still always have a map and one of the best photo maps for the Palouse can be found here.
