Epson 4900 won't print on resolution higher than 720X720 dpi
« on: April 04, 2015, 11:33:03 am »

Hi everyone!

I bought an Epson stylus pro 4900 3 months ago. It won't print on resolution higher than 720X720 dpi. Tried everything, changing paper type, color profile etc but same thing. Nozzles are checked too and all are OK. Epson 4900 printing fine on 720X720 but little bit brighter.
Tried to change ink cartridges - same thing. Is it maybe something with print head or what i can do more?

Thanks

I forgot, there is no ink coming out on higher resolution. On 720x720 everything works fine.

I presume that what you are saying is that you can't set it to higher than 720 x 720 in the printer properties dialog, in which case is isn't a physical printer problem, it is either the driver or the OS, or possibly both.

What OS and what driver version are you using.

Hi Brian

Thanks for answer

Yes, i can set all resolutions in the printer properties dialog. For example, If i choose print quality SuperPhoto - 2880x1440dpi or 720x1440dpi printer is printing but there is no ink coming. Blank paper. With resolution 720x720dpi everything works fine. It is very strange.

That is very strange, have you tried doing a head cleaning cycle?

All drivers are uninstalled and installed again. All settings deleted, but same thing. not working on high resolutions. I didn't find anything about this problem on the net. It is very frustrated, I'll keep looking for next step.

I'm wondering if perhaps you didn't actually delete/uninstall the Epson drivers properly.  I'm not sure about PC, but on a Mac you would need to go to System Preferences > Print & Scan and delete the driver from there.  Then to your Macintosh HD drive > Library > Printers and delete the Epson folder.  Empty trash. Restart and reinstall the driver.  You can actually just delete the Epson folder and be done with it, but I have always included the first step as well just to be sure there's nothing left to interfere with the next installation.  If you are on PC I imagine someone will chime in.  If you have already deleted the former driver(s) using this method you should be OK, in which case I also have no further ideas what could possibly cause the issue of which you speak.

Hi Gary

Maybe you right. I'm using PC with Windows 7 64 bit OS installed on it. It was a lot of demo RIP software installed before. I'll do clean install of OS and try again, or use my laptop. Who knows, everything is possible.
