The blurred wingtip attracts too much attention. Wings position not particularly attractive either. You got the spray, though. Close, but no cigar. You asked ;)

You can't get the spray without some wing movement...hmmmmmm

You can freeze the movement.

I could have...but felt the movement helped to set the moment...artistic differences :-)

Here's another where I felt some wing movement would help the shot rather than freezing everything...it's kind of like getting prop blur. Frozen props are dull and boring.

Instructions to model:
"Take 37. OK, now this time flap your wing again and really bring up some spray, but DON'T blink!"
"One more try. Take 38. See if you can get a slightly more graceful motion to the wing."
"Ouch! Take 39..."

 ;)

Exactly, Eric!

Nobody said it was easy... yesterday.

Today... you can use today's 6-10 frames per second cameras and get it all. :)

...and thus, you got what you got. Personally, tho it isn't one of your better shots, i like it solely for the fact that it is a bird shot. As for perfection in a bird shot... well....

If it isn't what you thought it would be, then just go back and keep shooting. Based on  your previous posts, you'll get that one perfect image you thought you saw when you took it.  Yes, you ARE that good and darn it, people like you!! :D

It's a fine image Chris. Is it your best ....no, but not your worst. Perfection doesn't exist but if you come close then you should be happy. You can't please all of the people all of the time?

Don't despair - I think we tend to comment more on the quality of the result and may not always recognize the difficulty in the making or taking, rather like figure skating or ballet.

Does the photograph (or dance) "speak" to us? Not always, irregardless of how much effort has gone into it.

This one just makes me laugh, I think you should photoshop a bungee cord to this guys foot or something :)
