In the first, I love the way the cross points to the door but I'm less convinced about including the small building on the right.

I love the sky in the second photo and also the "whiteness" of the scene. The first is interesting but I find it a bit unbalanced. Like Jeremy, the inclus of the building on the right was probably the cause of my concern.

You are both right. It is a stronger image after a crop that excludes the house(s).

My problem with this pic is the lack of contrast.  Tonal range is probably from 3-7.  Needs some contrast.

It "needs" contrast only if you wish to interpret it that way. One could also extract more detail from the snow through Clarity and other adjustments. It was snowing when I took the shot and I wanted to retain that atmosphere in this interpretation.

Two masterful fotos. Painterly, too.
And how wonderful to see that the feeling of the moment, when it was snowing, takes precedence over some added clarity.
Documentation and artistic expression need not be two different ways.
Thank you Rajan.

I can accept Jeremy's suggestion to crop out that extra building, but I wouldn't touch the contrast at all. The mood of the snowy day is caught perfectly, IMHO.

Thanks, Eric. I agree entirely about the contrast, which is why I'd not commented. Rajan is pretty good at that kind of thing.

#1 with the suggested crop will be really good.
