Fujifilm Firmware Updates
« on: March 31, 2015, 05:37:33 pm »

For any Fujifilm shooters out there who may have missed the announcement, Fuji has released firmware updates for the X100T camera, the X-T1 body, and the 10-24mm, 18-55mm, 18-135mm and 55-200mm X-System zooms: http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/.

And as a PoI, there is a typo on the download page (in the UK anyway) for the 18-55mm FW update.

Even thought the page states that the download is v3.11, you are in fact downloading v3.12 as intended.

All went well with firmware updates for my X-T1, 10-24 and 18-135 lenses.

I didn't try to do any before-and-after tests of the claimed improvement in zoom lens image stabilization because I don't have any way to reliably produce a specific amount of camera shake.  However, I've not been overly impressed with Fuji's "OIS" function up to now — especially with my 55-200mm, with which I previously found I needed to adhere to the canonical 1/<focal length> metric at 200mm, even with stabilization on.  But I made some indoor shots of static subjects today, and was able to eliminate camera movement entirely and quite consistently at 1/30s with that lens fully extended (sample attached).

This is a big deal for me.  My hands have never been that steady and I've lost a lot of otherwise nice captures over the years to camera motion.

Fuji deserves a lot of credit for its aggressive firmware update policy.
