Off to Poland in May
« on: March 30, 2015, 02:40:32 pm »

Will be spending a month in Poland traveling by car and staying in various locals for 3 -  7 days.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I might have overlooked some.

Thanks

That is some question.

Poland is a big country so it may help if you could outline where your schedule currently takes you - with a month available you may well have plenty of time to drive even large distances but there may be very good options along your current route leavin you more time to kick back and enjoy it.

Well to start off we are arriving in Warsaw, will pick up a car and drive to Lublin for 1 day , then to Zamosc for another day on to Lancut to visit castle 1 day, then 2 days touring the Biezcady . From there will drive to Krakow for 6 days 1 day to tour Auschwitz and the Saltmines drive to Zaopane . After this we will go to Wroclaw for 5 days doing Swindnica/ Klodzko / Paczkow. Next stop is  Poznan  4 days then up to Gdansk  spending 1 day in Torun after 4 days in Gdansk we will drive to Warsaw were we will spend 3 days 4 nights before leaving to come home.
Hope this helps

Poland is a hidden landscape treasure. Wide rye fields, hills, pine forests, lakes, incredible skies, unique culture. Don't go to the Tatra mountains because you will not find anything better than you already know from the Alps, etc. But you must go places like Roztocze (south-east) or Bieszczady. A trip from Warsaw to the south-east corner can include both Roztocze and Bieszczady.
If you go north then you need to go Mazury. Don't stay in known cliche places, but explore smaller villages. Then drive to the Poland's north-east corner at Suwałki. There are pine forests, rye and wheat fields and lakes everywhere there. A landscape photographer's paradise. If you go to Mazury stay a night or two in Villa Mamry on lake Święcajty (GPS  54.172907, 21.804050). It's a scenic Bed and Breakfast right on the lake. Very inexpensive, but incredible quality, with a wonderful owner. The owner speaks German, so if you do too, then the communication will be easy. It can be your base for exploring the area. You can also rent a boat or a bike from there. A true treasure.
