I love this photo - but I'm not sure why!

It's a half-dead looking bush on a dull, overcast day. Composionally, there is not a lot of depth and it's rather centrally placed. Even the vignetting is a bit obvious, although it does give the subtle appearance of the bush glowing. I shouldn't find much to like - yet it is captivating me. I feel like I could put this photograph on the wall and enjoy looking at it for a very long time.

There is something intriguing and mystifying about the image. I think it's the detail of it that's drawing me in, the way the branches are pointing this way and that. But I'm not one to like random - I prefer design, so even that is mystifying to me.

Two thumbs up for the treatment. That brown/gold toning effect is beautiful.

Nicely done, Chuck. Thanks for sharing it with us. You've given life to an otherwise dull thing and made it look beautiful!

I love it too. It's compositionally very simple, but the light and treatment are very elegant.
Wonderful!

I agree with Terry, I think: I like it but I'm not sure why.

The toning is good. Could you share the settings you used?

I like it also. I think that the shrub is dry, but in B&W it comes out more alive than it is? Plus, the sky looks great and adds another layer of life into the photo.

The bit I find less interesting is the sand, it lacks ripples and such.

I like it too and congrats for finding something that hasn't been run over by ATVs or buggies.

It has all been said. This is the problem with being late to the party and you did right to post it.

+1. The detail in the bush plus the pp toning really appeal to me.

I really like it also.

Does anyone think it could be that we all like it because it sort of looks like the shape of a human eye, with an iris of slighty lighter tones forming a circle in the centre - a very abstract human eye of course, but none the less and so gives it a nod towards having some sort of subiminal gesture within the image?

Only a thought.

I don't know about an eye, Dave, but I have to say that I've viewed this sweet photo at least once a day since it was posted and still find lots to explore. Fascinating!
