Pileated woodpecker
« on: March 16, 2015, 10:05:43 am »

This male pileated visited our backyard yesterday and put a lot of effort into demolishing a fallen log - there must have been lots of snacks under the bark. You should have seen the chips flying! My wife got some great videos. Taken with a Panasonic G3 and Lumix 100-300mm lens (at 300mm of course!).

Nice capture, Peter. He was probably going after carpenter ants, which I believe is their main food.
