Of interest to Aussie contributors.
« on: March 13, 2015, 08:01:41 pm »

We use an HP T120 for some printing jobs and our yellow has runout. Well it turns out that a yellow 711 cart can't be had here, my supplier tells me. Maybe sometime in April!

Since we need one pronto we ordered one from IT Supplies in the US.  They got back to us and it turns out that HP refuses to let them send one to Australia.

We have a "so-called" free trade agreement with the US but that's no help apparently. But even worse is a printer vendor not able to supply ink.

It's just wonderful living in the third world. Has your supplier suggested how you might print in the meantime?

There seems to be plenty of it around when you Google it.

I know it looks like it, but there's a big difference between advertising it and actually having stock. Your experience may differ from mine.

Why not give these guys a call? I don't give a rats and I won't post another reply but there seem to be a lot of places that say they have it in stock. I don't use HP printers, I use Epson. The fact that you are blocked from getting it from the US really sucks. Epson does a lot of lousy things but, at least, you can buy ink anywhere.

With HP carts it is often the case that refilling them will allow you to continue printing despite the earlier message that the cart is empty. Search for a preferably larger HP cart with the same ink and use that one as the source for the refill. You may even be able to exchange the ink bag. I guess it is the Vivera dye ink used in the T120 that is also used in larger Designjet models. Be aware that there is also a Vivera pigment ink range you should not use considering CM compatibility, the heads may cope though.

Met vriendelijke groet, Ernst

My post was really just highlighting my own slackness in not having ink on hand.  There's almost nowhere you can get an "over-the-counter" service, it's all online.  Officeworks, who sell the printer don't keep it in store. My sister in Florida will on-send any US ink to us here.

So I tried our usual supplier and he replied:

"Thank you for your patience in regards to this order and for your time today on the phone.
We shall organise to send out the HP 711 (CZ134A) Pack of 3 Cyan Inkjet Cartridges and HP 711 (CZ135A) Pack of 3 Magenta Inkjet Cartridges from our warehouse today. These should be delivered to you as soon as possible.

At the moment I am still tracking down further information on the HP 711 (CZ136A) Pack of 3 Yellow Inkjet Cartridges. The ETA I have for these is still 31/03/2015 to arrive in Australia.

I shall keep you updated on any new developments as they occur.
"

Ernst, I once heard of a conversion of a 6 color Design Jet 90 (18 inch) being converted from dye to pigment.  The discussion went like this: If the black is pigment, which it was, then the technology should let you re-fill empty color carts with HP color pigment.  The risks are small with this machine because of the two colors per printhead. And the printheads are cheap, like $50.  Worth a try?  Well the contributor thought so and seemed to be successful.  For how long?  I don't know, he left the forum soon after.
