Issues with Contax 645 Panoramics

I just came back from a photo trip to Utah, Bryce, Zion and area.

I was trying to do Panoramics at Bryce (a friend had a canon and was doing vertical panoramics).

I purchased the Really Right Stuff Pano head, which assists considerably doing panos, but of course only horizontal.

Has anyone figured a way to be able to simplify doing vertical panos with the Contax system?

I do have the L bracket (universal) and could pack it?

The only thing that I came up with was to go back to leveling the tripod, adjusting the ball head so that the camera is on its side. and rotating up and down.  There just must be a simpler method?

Actually Really Right Stuff now has an L-grip for the Contax.  I purchased one and this will help in doing vertical and horizontal without swinging the head.

They also have a solution for Vertical Panoramics with the use of two panning heads and brackets.

While the above scenerio would probably work, I am not that excited about carrying even more stuff in my bag?

I think I will work on Leveling my tripod (like I did before the pano head)
and then using one bracket and a Pano head to allow for vertical panos

or just using the pano head with the ball head turned on its side (with the) after getting it level from that perspective
