Very nice 'layers' of fog and mist. I suppose others will differ, but your choice of toning works for me. Congrats!

I like the overall composition, but wish for a more engaging or interesting foreground.

As with prev. I think the composition is good. I wonder if the color(?) version would be make for a more interesting image especially in foreground. As well. the principal bldg. is a little to tight to left edge of frame...needs a bit of breathing room. /B

Well I think color definitely helps it move toward a more interesting FG as Scott mentioned

Yep, a more distinctive foreground now.

Paulo,

That is a beautiful photo essay on your blog.

Thank you Rajan. The whole region has been suffering from human desertification for decades now. Odemira is the "capital" of the Concelho (County?), which is the largest in Portugal by area. The region has lots of isolated old farms, now most of them abandoned. There is some "return to the country" movement in the last few years, supported by small agricultural and traditional industries (cheese, pottery, agriculture, tapestries), but it is very hard,

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I see what you mean with the added interest in the foreground.

Hai Paolo,
My girlfriend is from Portugal ( i am Dutch) and she told me the coastal part must be very nice in that region...
I will have a look in Odemira if i pass... I like regional centre cities that are are not attracting tourists... ( like in Spain Teruel)
i think your photo gives the impression of an easy going rural town that wakes up from the fog on a sunny morning...
the BW version makes it look like an old photograph -timeless

Nothing new to say about the images except that I actually prefer the B&W.  As usual I enjoy your blog post.  Keep at it.

As per Paulo's permission, I did a simple edit that incorporated giving the house on the left a little more breathing room and altered the color values slightly so when I did the monochromatic conversion, I could gain some texture in detail in the higher contrast areas.

Chris - I think that monochrome version is a better one...especially with the room on left
