I like the atmosphere in these. The second image reminds me of the work of Ansel Adams.

The sunlit parts in the third are a real treat.

They are all very atmospheric and nicely done.

Exactly, the glow is magical and very welcome in this cold place.

Scott - in each there is a powerful element either in form/subject or because of "light on the form"... that is very substantial. The issue for me with these images is what is "additional" to the powerful subjects...there are things that distract ...or the framing of the tableau distracts...and each get's "pulled down" because of it. It would be interesting to see the image that is b/w...in color...I think that is the strongest in terms of composition...but I don't think the b/w processing is helping it. /B

Brandt makes a good point. To my eyes the B&W one needs more local contrast in the dark areas to show the trees better.
I'd like to see a color version of that one, too.

I liked the images individually and also was drawn conceptually to the idea as a series. In just that single regard, the change in aspect ratio for the third image seemed a little out of place. I particularly liked the first image, which is a little less of a classic landscape composition than the other two, and it caught my attention in a positive way.

#1: just makes me feel like you took what you could get with this location, I think that could be captured better at a different time.
#2: I'm not a fan of the road cutting through an otherwise clean landscape, but then that's just one of my personal things.
#3: Is my favorite, it appears on my work monitor a little cooked.  The lighting is perfect concealing the aspen glow, perhaps adjusting the clarity, or bumping up the highlights would bring out the sharpness.  I like the lines.  It appears you've taken out the shadows a bit to let us see the trees more clearly, but does this affect the color transitions?

Thanks for all the input, much appreciated.

Brandt, I agree about the distractions, especially after seeing Millett's wonderfully concise images. I'll go back to mine with hers in mind.

I attach a colour version of #2. Not much colour to work with, I thought, so I went with B&W. The forest is extremely dark in the OoC file, and in #2 it is too bright for my taste.

#1: glad you liked it, Slowframe. Murph, it was actually a carefully-made image, as the peak quickly faded in a snow squall. I have lots of clear pictures from here, but this is my favorite after several years.

#3: agreed, looks crooked. I have looked at using stronger saturation, but went with this as more realistic. If by "color transitions", you mean the warm and blue casts of the snow, I think these are reflections from illuminated and shaded clouds.

Scott, see what you mean about the color version. I understood you had only one (?) frame of it? Bye the by, I would probably do an number of brackets high and low of something like this /B

Nice series. I am drawn to the B&W but agree as to strengthening the contrast and detail in the darker areas.

Do I need more than one frame when the histogram is as shown below?

New contrasty version attached. The forest was very dark that morning, so I can show detail but prefer not to.Thanks, Chris.

Also a straightened and brightened #3.
