Glasses for color blindness
« on: March 01, 2015, 01:36:32 pm »

http://www.geek.com/news/scientists-accidentally-invent-color-blindness-curing-glasses-1616749/

Article says it's for a type of color blindness in which certain frequencies excite both red and green cones.
Doesn't specify type of genetic defect further.

Dale

Interesting. I wonder if the glasses have a narrowband cut at or near 550nm? This might help separate the peak wavelength responses of the "red" and "green" cones a bit and thus allow the eye/brain to more normally create color perception. Wonder what effect the glasses have on people with "normal" color vision?

Yes, that's just what they do.

They are marketed by an outfit named EnChroma, and here is a link to a review by a skeptical but satisfied customer:

http://www.reddit.com/r/ColorBlind/comments/180iad/my_review_on_enchromas_cxd_explorer_glasses

The review is followed by a number of comments and questions, several of which are answered by one of the principals at EnChroma.

Being R-G colorblind myself, I am sorely tempted. Once the price gets below $300 I'll probably give them a try.

The company's website is http://enchroma.com/ .
