I'd vote for color.  The contrast between the bright yellow and green stripes on the ground (and their contrast with the blue sky) adds something, for me.

I don't think we can actually help you with which one "YOU" prefer. That comes from within yourself. Perhaps it may have been better to ask which one we all prefer and why.

I prefer the coloured one. It has drama and life. Is the location nearly? I would love to see the same composition with a clear sky. The simple geometry and vibrant colours would be stunning without the clutter of the clouds. The way the treeline is on the horizon is reminiscent of naive paintings. Quite beautiful.

The B&W one lacks contrast and depth and for me is a bit bland. The darkness in the sky detracts from the darkness of the trees, so the impact of the form of the trees is lost. Again, have a go if you can with a B&W of the same composition without clouds, and see if the impact of the geometric composition of the horizontal lines and the vertical 'blob' trees works with a plain sky.

I love the really low horizon.

Hehe.  But i did ask which everyone preferred in the Forum Thread Description:

[span style=\'font-size:8pt;line-height:100%\']B&W or Colour?
Which do you prefer and why?[/span]

This is taken just out of my hometown of Maffra.  This was shot before i got my P's so i had to ride.  Maffra is in Gippsland, Victoria.

Thanks for your help.
And thanks for the suggestion, i may reshoot it sometime.

Color, no doubt.  It's esentially a 4 color image, so the vivid contrast brings out the best of it.  Also, the color version (to me) has a rather peaceful, carefree feel to it, while the B/W has more of a stormy look to it.

Despite my name, in this case I prefer tha color one for compositional reasons.  In general, however, I go for monochromes since in many cases I feel that color detracts from the emotional intent and overall composition.  Black and white compositions give equal emphasis to all of the pictoral elements and allow the viewer a universal view of the picture.  To me, color directs the eye hither and yon and tends to "quantize" the composition.

I am still grappling with this issue and thus would appreciate learning of any detailed articles on psychological-asthetic basis for the preference of B&W vs. color that may exist on the web

The folowing is about cinema.  Nevertheless, it presents some valid ideas on the topic.
