A seldom seen sight...
« on: February 24, 2015, 04:20:10 pm »

Halictoxenos (Twisted Wing insect) male copulating with it's mate which is inside of the abdomen of the larger Lasioglossum Sweat Bee)... The males of this species have no mouth parts for feeding & die within 5 hours of their birth. Thus it's hard to get images of their procreation...

That is very cool and interesting, SS. Congratulations on capturing such unusual and rare images.

And it's good to see someone else posting bug pictures here. I think it's safe to say that among all the available critters, they don't rank very high on the list of most photographers. (Or most other folks, for that matter.  :))

Outstanding, both for the quality of the images, and their documentation value.

" males of this species have no mouth parts for feeding"

I guess there's no need to say smile then? ;-) I know bad joke.

Very nice btw.
