I would crop left and right, just to bring more interest and importance to the two darker tree trunks.

Nice image. I agree with Paulo, a square crop would bring a focus to the image.

Thanks for the advice.  The crop is indeed a significantly stronger image.  IMO it is also quite a different image than I had in mind.  The point being that my original concept was only working for me.  The classic 'fuzzy concept'.  :)
