I've had my R2400 for like 8-9 years.  It still works well and I like the output.  I really want to go to 17".  (The 4900 just doesn't work for me and I can't justify 24").

I'm wondering if there a 17" SureColor P model would it be worth the extra price and wait?  I thinking of issues like:

1. Overall print quality (I have no comparison to the newer models after the R2400)
2. Better print head (possibly)
3. Longer output (the P600 apparently goes to 129 versus 37.5" on the 3880)
4. Longer service life
5. Roll paper use

I really dont think anyone can answer that for you.  You're talking about a hypothetical device that isn't announced or shipping so everything is at best, a conjecture.  you could extrapolate from the R3000->P600 and notice that in reality, they didn't change very much at all and head life is a total unknown and won't be known for N months after a significant # get out into the field.
