The Wonderful World of Albert Khan

I bumped into an old workmate this morning, he is a French Teacher. During my conversation with him I was reminded of the BBC documentary, The Wonderful World of Albert Khan. You can see videos of the series on YouTube here.

This series is fascinating hostorically but it is the photography that stands out, colour photography from around the world from 1909 onwards, who would have thought.

I came across his work a few years back and I love looking at colour shots from history, because colour which is an integral part of life tended until relatively recently to not be captured. Or it is erased over time such as the classical Greek marble statues having their gaudy colours vanish entirely. This unsurprising and ironically colours our view of history.

It would be nice if all 72,000 images were put up for viewing/research. What an amazing treasure trove of imagery.
