Anyone know if it comes in grey? I realize there's no pratical reason for it, but I wouldn't mind the uniformity in my L gear.

To the best of my knowledge no Canon lens comes in gray.
Most are black, some are off-white (the big telephoto ones) and very few are silver (some low end consumer models).
The 24-70/2.8 is black only.
