RZ67 PRO IID Crank Jammed / Lens Stuck On. HELP!!!
« on: February 07, 2015, 02:02:35 pm »

So My RZ67 Jammed 2 days ago and hasn't unjammed since.
My 110mm Lens is stuck on it and the rotation cuff won't move past a certain point.
The crank stops about half way down before it won't move any further.
This isnt the first time its jammed, last time it ended up costing me $300 to unjam it.
Last time it was with the same 110mm lens so I'm starting to think the lens might be faulty because none of the other lenses I own have caused the camera to jam at all.

(Also there's a leaf back on the body if that has any relevance to the situation.)

To fix it myself I have tried:
Setting in mechanical mode.
Setting it to a 1 second exposure.
Jiggling the crank back and forth quickly.
Using mild force but that frightens me.
Yelling at it.
Reasoning with it.
And searching google to only find people speaking about their RB bodies.  :-\

My  RZ is my workhorse and I need it working, does anyone have any advice?

Also I found this one video on youtube, but there's no context placed on what they are doing, but it seems potentially relevant.

Hello,

This used to happen to me when I used a Mamiya RZ.

I would suggest you replace the battery in the camera it might work.

Cheers

I have 2 of them
great cam's

but when the battery is empty
what is quite often the case
everything is blocked

so
disassembled every component
body , lens, back

then,
put in a new battery
re-assemble

and all is ok

the worst case, if using film, you loose 1 roll ...

I'll keep 1 RZ pro II

if you want, you can buy my spare one
as also a 250mm APO lens

want ?

is the mirror in the normal position or up (blocking the focusing screen) ? Is the light baffle behind the mirror in the normal position or up ?
is film in the back ? Darkslide ? multi exposure/rotation lever position ?
is the T lever on the lens set to T or A ?
is the cable release socket on the lens in the proper position ?
do you have the AE prism on the body ?

also describing what you did when the thing jammed would help. of course you were shooting but what/how were the settings ?

The mirror is blocking the focus screen. The crank depress half way before stopping abrumptly.
A digital back is on. Multi exposure option.
The T lever is in its default position (the green N is visible)
The release socket is in the right position.
I have a waist view finder on it.

I was shooting one day and I noticed that it was kind of grinding while i was cocking the lever. so I changed the battery. There is a possibility this battery was dead, but im unsure at this point.
After changing the battery the camera ran smoothly for a few frames until it stopped. The crank wouldnt depress and the lens could no longer be removed.

Since then I've placed a fresh battery in, Tried a cable release cord, prayed, cried, and hoped that one day it might magically un jam.

I have RZ67 II, not IID. Not sure if they are the same. This is what I can think of. Take out the back, take out the batteries, turn the Release Button Collar to the end (opposite side of the orange dot). See if you can press the shutter button to release the shutter. If it still can't, try to cock it first.

For RZ II, turn Release Button Collar to the end can operate the shutter without the batteries. Also, in order to take off the lens, it has to be cocked first.

I have had the same problem as you describe. Did you use the cable release on the lens? Sometimes when removing the cable release from the lens the collar does not come back completely. Solution: screw the cable release back in, then remove slowly. Check if the collar now comes back and the red ring is fully visible. Hope this helps.

the crank is purely mechanical (cocking the mirror/shutter/winding back) so the battery has nothing to do with it.

I'd suggest you put the lens collar to the normal locked position, set the shutter release to the mechanical 1/400 position, REMOVE the back, reset the multi exposure lever to to rotation and depress the shutter button, the lever should switch to the normal position. then try winding the body.

byt the description, the lens shutter is not cocked, basically the body is stuck after the film winding part and before mirror/shutter cocking.

attaching a film back might be an option, I have no experience with digital backs on the RZ, but the adapter plates might create issues when not properly aligned.

trying to rotate the back might help. I think a similar situation happened to me once, however I do not remember how I resolved it ...
