found a great way to monitor print making on my 9890
« on: February 07, 2015, 08:44:18 am »

was having intermittent streaking issues (solved with overnight windex trick)
but didn't want to risk wasting ink and paper while making large prints, so I rigged up this way of monitoring the process
$18 LED flourescent replacement tube (which I use for portraits!) and gaffer tape.
worked like a charm.

enjoy,
Eric

for the nit pickers: the other end of the tube with the 'bare' contacts are dead - they merely hold the replacement tube in a standard fluorescent unit.
The other live end is wire soldered to the two contacts and covered with a thick layer of non conductive rubber (Sugru)

I have a roll of white LEDs that run off 12 volts. The back is self stick. I may see if I can try them out.

By the way. Someone did something similar here. And there was discussion about being careful it may interfere with the sensors. At least in the initial paper loading and size checking.

That's a good start, but you could do so much more!

Nice!  Can't tell... Is the dark frosted cover still there?  If so, is the tube mounted on the inside or outside of it?
