How to create patch set TIF files
« on: February 02, 2015, 06:33:35 pm »

I want to build a number of patch files using my own values. Building the text files is easy enough but I can't see how to build the TIF image to print. Is there something hidden in the innards of i1P or Colorport?

Once you load the data, ColorPort will create the targets (TIFFS) for you. Create Target, Save Target... button.

That was too easy. I created my target and saved the TIF file but it won't print. ACPU, and PrintTool will take the file, there are a couple of blinks on the 3880 and nothing happens. The file that I created is CMYK 8, covering K from 0-10 and 90-100. In an attempt to isolate the problem, I tried printing one of the default Xrite targets with ACPU but it's just the same. There are a couple of blinks and then nothing. I'm assuming that CMYK is the issue.

What I really want is a TIF in GG2.2 so that I can print it with Cone inks. Taking the CMYK file and converting to GG changes the K values of the patches.

The 3880 driver isn't going to take CMYK data (well or at all). It's a Quickdraw/GDI driver and expects RGB data.

Andrew is right in that the 3880 driver (or ANY normal inkjet) won't take CMYK data, or if it did, it would screw it up with some kind of transform. You'll need a RIP to do that, or just possibly the free Gutenprint driver. But those RIPs drivers will have different colour 'curves', limits, screening, etc., etc., from the Epson set. I suspect you may be familiar with QuadTone Rip, which may be what you want.
I'm not even sure that ACPU will print CMYK, even through a RIP.
Good Luck,
Phil
