i1Profiler error: too much variation
« on: January 31, 2015, 02:38:18 pm »

I just ran into an issue trying to profile some Epson VFA paper.

I thought I printed out everything ok (I similarly printed targets for HPB at the same time) and let them dry for 24h.

After reading all the patches, during the profile generation process, it throws this error.........

Too much variation between identical patches.

The HPB profile created fine so I'm assuming *something* glitched (including me ;) ) during the VFA patch generation.
I've already re-printed the patch set so am waiting until tonight or tmrw but has anyone seen that one before?

Will something like Babel's Patchtool or something similar let me at least see which patches are the offending ones? etc etc

Yes, you open the reference file and then the measured data, go to Tools>Compare. Colorthink will do the same if you save out a format it understands from i1P (don't use mfx.)

Thanks.  Babel is more my speed (read: $ vs. $$$).  I just cant justify the $400 cost of Colorthink.
I wish they made a not-quite-Pro version.

Right, I see ColorThink (non Pro) can't do worksheets.

Have you tried the data analysis option in Profiler ? That allows you to compare two sets of data and see where the differences are.

Thanks.   I scanned the new test charts last night and the profile came out fine.  Just looking at the 2 sets of charts this morning you can discern subtle but significant differences so I'm chalking it up to some form of (as Spock would say) 'space madness' :D and have already tossed the bad charts
