Arista Americana Canvas!!
« on: January 27, 2015, 08:51:37 am »

I have only found one company that sells Arista Americana Canvas. Specifically Yellowstone. They have a limited supply and dont even have 44 inch rolls. Anybody know of a different source than freestylephoto?

It is completely smooth with no texture at all but still a canvas

For only $400 you can buy a 44" x 39 foot roll of Ilford Prestige Smooth Canvas from B&H.  But I'm pretty sure it's discontinued, so act fast.  It costs more because it's prestigious.

It's not too hard to wrap rag fine art papers around Gatorfoam.  Lightly round the edges of the board with sandpaper.  Glue mount the center of the print out to the edges of the board, brush a glue+water mix soak on the back of the still-exposed, wings, then wrap those when they're soft.  Figure out how you want to handle the corners before you start, better practice on some scrap media.  You could also use a variation of the Epson rice paper stretched media mounting we saw on a recent thread.

Was just informed that arista Americana will not be reproducing one of their papers. Canvas Yellowstone . The manufacture no longer has the equipment to produce it. I am going to assume that a few of the highly specalized canvas papers will also not be reproduced.

If you want a smooth canvas look, check some fine art papers.  Buy some samples packs, itsupplies.com has a good selection.  Hahnmuhle and Canson have some very nice paper textures that sort of invoke the canvas genre.  For a very fine, canvasy texture Hahnemuhle Albrecht Dürer paper comes to mind.  It's light weight and would be easy to wrap around a panel, if that's of interest.  Both Monet and Daguerre canvases are reasonably smooth with a very attractive, not-too-polarized texture, and so is Hahn Photo Canvas 320.
