Z3100 / Missing the HP Color Center on OSX
« on: January 21, 2015, 07:59:22 am »

Hello.

I'm working on OSX 9.9.5 and trying to get Color Center to work.
The problem is, there is no Color Center...HP Utility and the embedded Web Server does not
list the application.
I did a Printer Factory Reset, changed USB/Lan Cables, clean installed OSX, all with no success.

Latest Raster Driver 30.0 and HP Utility are installed.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much!
Enrico

I ran into this problem and did installs, uninstalls and everything.  Incredibly, it appears HP has changed the software so that there is no GUI like there was before on Macs.  Everything will work the same, there is a small thing in the lower right corner that enables updating, etc.  When I get to the studio I'll check back in and show you. It's incredible they changed it the way they did.  It just sucks.

Enrico,
First, welcome to the forum.

Here is what I see when I open the HP Utility: (See first image below)

Next, in order to do custom profiling, calibration, etc., go into "Paper Preset Management" (see image 2 below)

At the bottom of the screen are (from left to right) a Plus sign, A star and drop down arrow, and far right an "update or synchronize arrow"

So you, that's it.  Click the + sign to add a new paper, use the star and drop down menu to calibrate, profile, install ICC Profile, etc.

The arrow (see image 3) enables you to synchronize papers.

So that's it.  It works, but no fancy interface.  Apparently, the software designers "streamlined" the new HP Utility for Mac when they were updating it for Yosemite, and now it is back dated for Mavericks too.  And the color center as we knew it is gone.

I cannot believe they would pull this kind of stunt without notifying users.  I too went crazy trying to figure out what happened.

I even went so far as to install Windows 8.1 Pro on a virtual machine with VMWare, on my Mac, and the same GUI, if not better, (the Color Center) is there and with more functions than the Mac.  Unbelievable.

So don't panic, all is well - it's still there- we just don't know it, LOL.

-Mark

Does anyone know when the last driver and firmware updates were posted for the Z3100? I can't find anything on their website anymore that will open for the Z3100. Last time I clicked on an update for this printer it just gave me a blank page.

Absolutely none of the links work on a search page on HP that I just did:

Z3100 Drivers

I suspect they are changing everything or that that part is down.  There are so many funky issues with HP software and drivers now, they may be getting overwhelmed by calls, requests, etc., that they are working to fix the software.  I think they may have had some internal issues in the software division that has things messed up with the new drivers, and they may have just taken everything down waiting for the updates.  Then again, that is only speculation on my part, and it could be that that section of the website is jus temporarily down.

Pretty unsettling, whatever it is, though.

During the 7 years i have the printer the HP website has changed over and over and it never became better.
I am on a mac;
my firmware seems to be TR12-TR_7.0.0.3
is that the latest? anyone?
The link to firmware from within the hp utility never worked... - Also i bought the HP APS ( advanced profiling system)
the colorimeter stopt working but is still in use as necessary USB key , but the latest versionHP_APS_v141 stopped working after 10.6...
There is no place to find any support- and it costed me 800€ i believe .
I probably may use it again if i startup from an old 10.6 system...
