Import backup of LR 4.4 images + database in Adobe CC (LR5)
« on: January 13, 2015, 03:01:37 pm »

It finally happened. My old faithfull Windows laptop with Lightroom 4.4 died gracefully. Time for something new. I ordered a 15" MBP with 16 GB and a core i7 under the "for work" excuse.  ;)

Fortunately I can 'buy' Adobe CC via my university for almost nothing.

My images and LR 4.4 datasbase were on the crashed harddisk, but since I faithfully made backups nothing is lost.
What is the best way to convert the old files to work with my new system? Can I expect any issues with the windows based DB now that I switched to OSX?

Just open the catalogue in LR5.7 and it'll convert it.

The only Mac-Windows thing is that your folders will be looking for the Windows computer's folder structure. You'll have to point them to the Mac's folder path. Fixing the parent folder will fix its child folders.

The only thing that needs to "convert" between LR4 and LR5 is the catalogue, of course.  When you open an LR4.x catalogue in LR5.x, it asks if you want to convert, and creates a new catalogue (the old LR4 catalogue is left untouched).
