Mamiya 7ii Viewfinder
« on: January 12, 2015, 11:37:41 pm »

I've been on a business trip in the east and have also spent some time looking for a good conditiom used Mamiya 7ii kit. A number of the cameras that I have seen so far when you look at the rangefinder patch things are slightly lower or off to the side a little bit when they should be lined up. Is this a known problem or am I using it incorrectly? Ty

If the patch is off vertically, in that the never perfectly line up but kind of overlap, or if the patch focuses past infinity or stops moving before you hit infinity, the rangefinder mechanism needs calibrating. It's a really easy fix.
I shot over one thousand rolls of film in my 7ii over a five year period and the rangefinder went out four times, but only very subtly. That's after multiple knocks and falls and one car crash! Others have had worse luck, though.

It appears this is a home fix of a low on the difficulty scale  ;)

Awesome, thank you for the info. I think this could account for the issues. In Tokyo now so hopefully be able to access more stock here!

If I remember right the metering is also usually a little of center, exactly where depending on the one you happen to end up holding, so using a hand held meter is advisable, and like all rangefinders figuring out exactly where the edge of the image will end up is a challenge, though others may have more positive experience in this respect. Apart from these minor details it is a wonderful beast.
