HP z Error code 48:00
« on: January 11, 2015, 08:25:34 pm »

I unplugged the printer and restarted which clears the error.

I just loaded a roll, and got the same error 48:00...again!
Says to call service if it repeats.

I looked at the histroy of errors on the machine, and even from start of this printer there is never a 48 error until after I did the belt, bushing and particularly the fan changes. (not sure if any of that had anything to do with 48:00)

As I searched the web I found this....
http://www.fixya.com/support/t25302235-error_48_00_hp_designjet_z3100_44inch
Which is pretty much what I'm expereincing except, not every time I start. Just with paper area changes.
Also I never took out the service station.
4th time 48 error. after I did a few prints. When I reboot it is clear. My tech got into that service station and wiped it pretty good without taking anything apart, just reaching in with a microfiber rag and rubbed them down, so it looked like.

I was feeding it a 44" roll. It takes the paper in, and I can see a 1.4 inch of it as it did a 3-2-1 count down for it to load the paper, I see a quarter inch from top window...and then the error!

You may need to run a service calibration test Phil.  This error code relates to a solenoid - almost certain not related to the previous repairs/replacement.

Hi Mark,
Service calibration? is that an option in the menus of the printer?

No - a seperate menu.  You need to read in the repair manual, Phil.  Not hard.

if you don't have the time, you can call tomorrow and I can help you with it.

A year or two ago my Z3200 started displaying this error. At first a restart solved the problem, then it became more frequent, sometimes alongside with other errors... some regarding circuit board on the carriage. As the printer was under maintenance contract at that time I called HP and they said they would send a technician. The guy called me before coming and said he would change the whole carriage assembly as HP had already authorized it, but he was sure I could easily get rid of the errors by simply cleaning the encoder strip. The parts for replacement would only arrive in a few days so I gave it a try and it worked! I simply ran a soft cloth humidified with a few drops of water across the encoder strip (pinching the strip with the cloth between the fingers). The cloth came almost black on the first time, so I repeated a few times. The last time I ran dry cloth.
The printer worked flawlessly for the next days until the new carriage arrived. I proceded with the replacement because is was already authorized and my maintenance contract for that machine was almost over, so new parts and a complete check-up by a technician sounded good.
Now I clean the encoder strip every couple of months. As the strip is the reference the printer uses to control the carriage movement, any dirt or ink overspray on it can mess with the carriage movement, specially while the printer is trying to detect paper, scan barcode and perform mainenace on the service station.
I don't know if it will solve your problem, but is something worth knowing.

Excellent Geraldo - great to know this-
I will begin a cleaning schedule of the encoder strip more frequently myself.

That is a great point Ger. That encoder strip took a lot of handling when doing the belt, and cleaning the service station. I will do the cleaning.
That was one of 2 things that came to my mind when I typed my issue, as I know how that stripe was handled, and my tech said that is what counts and controls the paper position.

Thank you guys, I will try this now and report back!

Well the 44" roll was well received by Mr. Z3200, and so far no error off this first file I sent via Qi/no preview. Lets see how many I can print tonight as
tomorrow is a new day :-)

I took a damp cloth with RO water(no distilled left), and wiped it from end to end. I did have some dusty and dark particles come up and it so far cleared the eror at this moment. I hope this is the solution and it remains error free when I swap papers....as I am about to profile some metallic!
