Landscape masterclass/workshop recommendation (Europe)
« on: January 10, 2015, 05:08:43 pm »

I am based in London and, having mainly focussed on street and architecture photography, have recently become serious about landscape.  My bias is usually towards learning "on the job", but I have quickly come to realise that landscape photography has particular technical challenges and I have promised myself to commit time and resources during 2015 to making significant improvements on that front.

There are lots of weekend masterclasses and workshops advertised, including those by Leica and Nikon.  Can anyone recommend a weekend landscape course in the UK or elsewhere in Europe?  Has anyone been on a Ming Thein masterclass (I see that he has one coming up in Lucerne)?

[To the extent relevant, my primary gear for landscape is a Nikon D800E and 16-35mm f/4VR with Really Right Stuff tripod and head.]

I can recommend Bruce Percy and Ian Cameron for UK (well Scotland) based ones.  Google should find their web sites

I would recommend David Ward, I did a week of landscape with him about 10 years ago in Scotland. He is enthusiastic and a great communicator. Mark Sunderland is another passionate photographer who runs short courses in his beloved Yorkshire.

Consider Lakeland Photographic Holidays. It's a week rather than a weekend, but John Gravett's tuition is excellent and you'll enjoy your stay in the Lakes (he also does overseas tours).

Hi,

There is also Light and Land, who have a very good reputation and great tour leaders. David Ward (who was mentioned in one of the previous posts), is one of their leaders.

Thanks,
Andrew.
