Epson 9890 - Does it waste ink switching from Matte Black to Photo Black?

I've actually read either way. On a 3880 there is a big change over period and you want to group your matte printing together not switch back and forth to a glssy.

Also does Epson Advance BW waste ink switching or as long as you are printing say glossy, the printer doesn't care what color system it is printing.

I don't remember exactly how much ink Epson says but it is supposed to only waste the black ink you are switching from.

My experience has shown that this is not exactly true due to the fact that after the ink switch it starts a cleaning cycle, and that cleaning cycle waists ink in all channels. I do not know how much ink is used but it is certainly not zero ml.

I don't understand your second question about the ABW mode.
