For the PC I use Handy backup and more recently Bvckup2.

Handy Backup has been reliable for many years, but is getting too many bells and whistles, interface getting more complicated and backups are slowing down.

Bvckup2is very simple, very fast and so far reliable. It is taking over from Handy Backup.

I use SyncToy. It's free and it's simple to use.
