Cold Snap
« on: January 08, 2015, 03:14:22 pm »

From a recent cold snap that froze the river rapidly.  One normally expects ice to be fairly neutral but there are a lot of organics in the water and the this was lit by a low but bright sun and some of the light is actually transmitted through the ice so there is fair amount of color.
Thanks for having a look.

I like #3 the best.  Interesting patterns and colors.  Nice subject.

Very nice set, Chuck. They look sort of "painterly" (in a good way).

Yes, very interesting photos. I really like #3. There's realism and abstraction all in one in that capture. Nice!

#3 works well indeed, for a more tight and close look. But #1 is also very interesting, as it shows both frozen flowing and cascading water shapes.

Thanks for the comments guys.  I wasn't at all sure that anyone would like these.  The combination of transmitted and reflected light was the most unusual light that I have ever encountered.

I'll add one more here that was shot under light overcast.   You can see the difference in the light.
