Outback Adventure
« on: January 08, 2015, 06:47:22 am »

Just after Christmas we packed up our house on the east coast of Australia and started a 4500km journey to move the family to Darwin in the very north. I've been sent there for work and we have been driving up there to make a trip out of it and see some parts of the country rarely seen. Lots of driving to be done so there isn't much time to stop for photos but I have stopped a few times for photo detours. Now that we are about half way through the trip I thought I'd share some of them!

First two are the Wynnum beachfront near Brisbane. Shot on my Canon 6D

Third image is Sorghum fields near Dalby. Multi image stitch on a Fuji X-E2.

Last image is near Longreach. This area has been in drought but it was raining when we arrived, I've never seen such a wasteland - dead, empty, grey fields and roads littered with roadkill in various states of decay. All this turned to mud when the rain came, I must say it was pretty depressing to drive through! Gave me one of my favourite images though. Fuji X-E2.

First two images in this post are rocky outcrops just outside of Winton. Normally these would be baking in bright sunlight but the early morning sun that is being filtered through a layer of cloud has really helped these images. Nice to see some features in the terrain after 100km of dead flat ground, my wife even told me to stop!

Third image is of flooded bush near Mt Isa, they have not had decent rain in 7 years and while a lot of the water has drained away there is some still standing around in amongst the trees.

Last image is of Mt Isa itself. The mine looms large over the town as you drive in, it's a company town built around the mines and furnaces - why else would you have such a large city in the middle of nowhere?
