A Singular Presence
« on: January 06, 2015, 08:54:29 am »

It is all one tree and it just needed the right sky to make the shot. Last evening I saw that sky.

Nice work. I know it is not possible, but this tree would look even better without any "interference" from the surrounding ground shrubs.

I'll have a word with groundskeeping. I was in the "out of bounds" area as it was...moving bushes would not have been advisable. I knew they were distracting to some degree but there was no other angle with any better foliage. In defense, I did work the colors within those buses to make them work with the tree rather than conflict.

I have a photographer friend (he used to use an 11x14" view camera exclusively) who always carried around a chain saw in his Land Rover.  I guess he considered it a tool for "pre-spotting."  ;)

This is a state park and I am quite sure after they retrieved the key from the Gulf of Mexico, I'd be an old man in rusty chains.

Would a lower viewpoint be possible? The tree would stand out more against the sky and the interference from the shrubs might be lessened.

Not that it's bad as it stands, of course...

Actually I've seen plenty of 'lone tree' photography. I think the shrubs give it some grounding and interest.
