Polkadot plant macros
« on: January 04, 2015, 03:22:38 pm »

It's been a dreary, rainy weekend here in Baltimore (MD, USA), and what better weather than to do some macro stacking. I happen to have a polkadot plant (Hypoestes phyllostachya) that I transplanted and brought indoors after it popped up in between the gray stones of my patio this past summer. Here are three macro stacks of a bloom on this plant going up in magnification. I used Kenko extension tubes, a Canon 24-70mm EF lens, Canon 7D, and RRS macrorail, and processed in Lightroom and Photoshop. Your C&C are welcomed. Thank for taking a look.

  Cheers,

The closest view works best for me.  Just great focus and detail, so let's see as much of it as possible.  I bet you could run a title contest and get a wide variety of entries. Thanks for the explanation of how you took these very successful images.

Nice shot Bob.

But I would crop it to enhance better the flower.

Perhaps something more square, or vertical.

Try, I'm sure you'll find the best crop.

Have a Nice Day.

Thanks for the cropping idea Thierry. I have to confess that square crops are not my 'usual' fare, but I think you are right in this case. I'll give your suggestion a try later today and post a cropped version shortly.

Great macro.  My opinion is too much black, maybe cube the first photo?

Totally agree with removing some of the black Maddogmurph. I posted said image on my webpage (see url below, if interested).
