 ;)

I use little white stickers on stage and place them in some studied location. Then I adjust my WB by selcting one of those stickers or make a blend between two. Never failled me. Never forget to take off the stickers after the shoot :)

I don't think you need to pay 100 kUSD for a monochromator. Theres is a device from ImageEngineering that costs just below 1kâ‚Ĵ

http://image-engineering-shop.de/shop/article_IE-camSPECS%2520express/camSPECS-express.html?sessid=shh1SLs40K5itL1P352YtVsI0x0H5s6XuEZRymTobDrNVoHvIbp0HuTHmxzEWW2A&shop_param=cid%3D565%26aid%3DIE-camSPECS%2520express%26

I was not thinking about an monochromator, but a "illuminant simulator", ie a lamp which you can configure the shape of the spectrum. You could then in lab conditions test how different subjects react under various illuminants. For example, I could use a photospectrometer to measure the spectrum at dusk during winter above the polar circle, which is a very special light, and then recreate that light in the lab using the programmable spectrum lamp. This equipment could be used to see how a certain camera+profile combination will modulate color under different illuminants.

Presumably with a number of these a spectrum could be constructed?

There's the RS-5B programmable led light source,

which looks like perfect for this kind of experiments, but "contact us for a quote" is never a good sign concerning price :-). With LED technology these type of light sources are quite simple to make, a hobbyist can probably make one, but it's low volume specialized products for scientific applications and that comes at a price.
