Upstream and downstream on the Bow River at Castle Junction. -27 °C, thank goodness for image stabilization.
Suggestions welcome.

I would like to see the tops of the trees in the second image.  Nice work.

Yes, the first is well framed, but the second needs less foreground and more background.

Here is a tip that I use very often.

With some 4/3 sensors cameras you can crop the jpg to 3/2 (screen) and keep all the Raw datas when shooting.

After when you are home, you can shift the the 3/2 frame into the bigger 4/3 frame to choose the best fit.

The only drawback is that you loose some pixels.

Have a Nice day.

I like #1, the composition is really nice, with the small rock in the stream providing some scale in the foreground.

Thanks for the feedback.

The original image (attached) has tree tops. I cropped out the less-interesting sky to highlight the more-interesting foreground.

That is so much better.  Beautiful!  My eye is still drawn to the foreground, but before I was so distracted by the chopped trees that it ruined the whole photo for me.

I think that is a much stronger image.  I like that one a lot.  In the cropped image I didn't notice the fog.  Well, I did see it but is seemed less important.  The foreground is still the strength, but it has some breathing room.  Nicely done.

Another vote for the uncropped version. It feels much more complete, and the foreground is still the star of the show.

I'm with the crowd on the crop.  In this case the complete trees and the negative space of the sky balance the detailed foreground.  I'm curious about the shadowed foreground in the first shot.  Did you warm up the shadows?  I've been processing some shots with blue sky and strong shadows and the blue cast in the shadows where ice reflects the sky colour is impressive.

Thanks for getting me back on track! I agree that the trees help.

Chuck, I brought out the river colour by increasing the saturation a bit in the area circled in this original version. The credit goes to the morning sun on this red rock.

Great shots, I really like how you brought our the colors in the reflection without making the rocks too bright in the sunlight.
