Newbie needs some help with Dxo Optics
« on: December 25, 2014, 11:44:18 am »

Hi , I am a newbie to photo and realize that shooting in RAW is a good thing.

I'm working with the RAW file in DXo Optics.

Today I shot some pictures in a sunny day with no clouds at all.
The JPEG file was not successful at all , so I tried to upload the RAW file in DXo and worked with it for some while.

I'am satisfied with the foreground , but not happy with the sky at all.
No matter what I tried , I could not get it blue as it should be.
The sky in the upper left corner is ok , but the rest - not at all....

Here is the picture :

If the EXIF data is correct, you were grossly overexposing a daylight scene and I doubt any software can get it back.  I'd guess you to be at least 6 stops over with ISO 200, 1/125 @ f/3.5.

Sure you got your camera settings right since it was Manual?

Looks like operator error to me.

It is possible that given the sun angle coming across that you may have a lens flare with the sun hitting your lens directly. Try with another image to see what DXO can do.

I think that the EXIF data is correct , so clearly a newbie thing...

I finally found out how to adjust the aperture.
Yesterday was a sunny day again , so I took some shots :

The image is JPEG straight out of the camera. None adjustment in DXo.
