small prints
« on: December 18, 2014, 12:35:45 pm »

Hey all
I've grown tired of watching my ipf8400 chop off 4" of unused paper on either end of an 8x10 borderless print and ganged 5x7's are enlarged so much to be borderless that it has a dramatic effect on my cropping.  I'm contemplating other solutions. for those of you who SELL your work regularly would you rather:

buy a smaller printer and do sheets to eliminate trimming and trimmed waste
outsource
other?

Also, I'm curious how anyone feels about 8x10 prints on 11x14 sheets and 5x7's on 8x10 sheets. This would let me avoid borderless enlargements and have the added benefit of being more museum/gallery style

I should add that for whatever it's worth on any given portrait order we're talking about 5-6 8x10's and 10-12 5x7's. All priced appropriately, but I'm still looking for time and resource savings.

whatcha think?

Put a 44" roll of paper in that bad boy and start enjoying less waste!

I can't tell what size/source you're printing on now. But perhaps an alt printer, smaller would be a good multi use machine?

I use a Pixma Pro 1 and an iPF8400. Very happy with both. I use Ilford Prestige paper in the Pro 1. For 8x10, I cut the 8.5x11 down, doesn't take long though.
