Leica isn't appointed by the Royals anymore;)
« on: December 18, 2014, 12:15:32 pm »

Those were the good ol' times and Leica's most distinguished testimonial:

Now it seems that Fuji will challenge Leica for being the Royal's choice.

The Queen may not be amused and I bet that some marketing guys in Solms will kick oneself...

You'll notice that the Queen is  using the extra-special one-off left-handed version of the 3M  :D

The image has been flipped. Notice the queen's ring.

The real clue is in the brooch.

If one is brought up correctly, one would never wear a costume brooch on one's right lapel.

Actually, No.

The traditional "driving side" has historical significance.

Because most humans are right-handed, the safe way of two horsemen to approach and pass each other is to ride on the left side of the road - so that they pass sword arm to sword arm.

Hi,

I don't see the argument, we continental Europeans are driving on the right side of the road.

Best regards

and that is why I wrote "wrong side" in quotes

Even where they drive on the right, they still seem to mount a horse from the left. Also   said to be back to how you wear your sword.  :)

Mounting a horse is more natural from the left, which is probably why riding (or at least mounting and passing) used to be mostly on the left -- until the French revolutionaries swapped it and then Napoleon imposed it on much Europe, and the rest of Europe gradually feel into conformity out of convenience (many parts of Europe used the left side into the 20th century). Note that all the great island nations have stayed lefties: the UK, Eire, Japan, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand ...

And what was good for horses is still good for bicycles: as a cyclist, riding on the left has a distinct advantage of letting you mount from the curb side of the bike when pushing off into traffic.
