z3200 belt
« on: December 13, 2014, 01:59:02 pm »

I inspected the belt on the printer and it looks like a few areas have cuts in it where a VERY thin sliver of the outer belt rubber in the middle of the belt comes off. so something has cut into it.
I'm thinking this is the early stage of the belt ripping?

There is a good amount of white dust on the belt, likely from paper. Is it better to wipe the belt down with this magic lube as well? Or just on the rods as I read on another thread?

Either way Amazon had the oil for $40 shipped. Partshere had it for $38shipped, but from another report of vendors selling the wrong item, I rather deal with Amazon(not necessarily better, but?!).

Its a bit odd to me that HP having this printer from the 2100, to 3100, AND the 3200 has not used a belt with longer service life. Doesn't make sense. Or a belt that can be buckled some how rather than needing a full tear down to replace.

So can I make a few 13x19 prints, or do I STOP using the printer until the lube comes in?

Also, this thing is load, can I power it down each night or would that be bad to restart things each day?

Yes - the fan is loud.

If you think you can do it, you can replace the fan:

Replacing the Z Series Fans

There's a lot of info on that page -

Yes, great info. And IF I do my belt change myself, which I think I can, between the posts you and others have up here, it does give some confidence. Once I open it I will be changing out the fan for a quiet one.

Even if I have the top power button off on the printer the fan is running. Any negatives if I turn the power switch from the back off? I would likely want to do this daily, but I rather not. (We will see how important it will be once a new quiet fan is in?)

Thanks Justan -
I hope to do much more - There's so much info spread around, it would be nice to have it organized.
Next time I do a belt/fan/bushing change, etc., I can refer back, myself, as well.

Glad you liked it.

I wouldn't want to say for sure, Phil.  If you are religious about turning it back on, I don't see a problem.  No doubt as you've by now heard, the printer does it's micro droplet routine occasionally, which keeps clogs from occuring.  A quieter fan might be your answer.  For now, put it to bed and see how it does.  Just turn the switch in the back to off.
