The Z3100 Wiki has expired
« on: December 07, 2014, 09:13:34 pm »

Just in case it is important to anyone, the Z3100 wiki has had its subscription expired.
This apparently means that until someone pays $50.00 it will remain locked and will eventually go away.

Lots of folks contributed and there is good information on there.

I was surprised to see that.

Here is an early thread about it (my how time flies):

The old wiki is here: http://z3100users.wikispaces.com

It says only:

Subscription Expired
This wiki's subscription has expired. The wiki will be reactivated once one of the wiki organizers renews the wiki's subscription. For more information, please visit this blog post.

http://blog.wikispaces.com/2014/09/wikispaces-is-no-longer-offering-free-non-education-wikis.html

It sounds like one of the "wiki organizers" has to renew the wiki's subscription. If one of the organizers is out there, why not renew it for a month for $5?  If you do that I would be glad to work  with you and download that material and put it on a free google site. I know the material is old but there is a lot of it there.

Thanks for your offer to help Ed.
I've sent RDonson an email from the wiki site and have asked for his help.
I'll reimburse him for the 5 bucks.

Hopefully he will help.  If he can't I'll ask another organizer.

It would be a shame to loose all that info.

Again, thank you for your offer to help.

Good news!  I didn't want to bother Sean Puckett who established the wiki, but since I haven't heard from RDonson, I tracked down Sean.

He wrote back:

Mark,

I re-activated the wiki and as it happens there’s a 30 day free trial so no one has to spend any money!

Once you get a new homepage set up I’ll post a redirect on the front page. Right now there’s just a warning.

Very kind of him.  Most appreciated.  If Ed will begin a new free Google site, we can contact Sean and get things back in working order.

Thanks!

Sorry for not replying sooner.  I haven't been too active in the wiki other than approving requests to join.

When I looked at the wiki today I found:

Note that this site will be expiring January 8 2015 -- however the information is being moved to another site. More news as events warrant.

It seems Sean has taken the above action.

Things appear to be moving forward to retain the information contained there.  Is there something else I can help with?

Thank you sir.  No problem at all.  As far as any additional help, for now it looks like we're good, but if something else comes up, it's nice to know you're potentially available.

Appreciate it -

Any progress with resuscitating the wiki or has it been decided to let it rest in peace?
Regards,
William.

As far as I know, nothing has been done since Sean helped out - I PM'd Ed Hopkins who volunteered to put the info on a free Google site, but no response, and since then, it appears to have withered on the vine.  A real shame.  There's a lot of great info on the wiki.

Anyone else who would like to move the information and has the know how, PM me and I can get back in touch with Sean and see if he's still willing to help migrate it.

Otherwise, it dies by default, I guess.

Mark

the last correspondence (PM) I got from you was:

"Ed, thanks again for your offer to help.  Here's what I think would be best:

If you would work directly with Sean (the original creator) it will go most smoothly.

Here is his email address:

seanpuckett@gmail.com

Let me know how it goes, OK?  Good luck and thanks again.

-Mark"

I sent mail to Sean and never got a response from him. Accordingly I have done nothing.

Well - again, sorry for the confusion.  I gave you the wrong address by accident.
It is sean(m)puckett@gmail.com  (remove Parentheses)

Guess that's why he never got back to you.

Mea Culpa -

is z2100 or z3100 info out there on the web? The wiki really has expired.

Right now I am spending a lot of time reading through variuos documentation on the z2100 re. drivers.
Like now I found that one just needs to set the paper preset to "any" paper
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01433915
and I do not know if that is still som but I will try it out. I wondered why I only got one custom paper in the printer driver dialogue but I have several....

Nora, It only shows the one you have loaded in the printer. If you want to see one of your other profiles. Change the paper loaded in the printer menu in the printer.

I only just figured this out myself.

Yes they did not update  any of the user manuals. It only shows in the documentation for a firmware update. This takes a long time to study and find. The dealers did tell me several years ago that the paper is supposed to be "any" but then this printer is at another location and time goes and one forgets.
I used the Epson in the meantime all the time and there one should choose the paper preset (unless that got changed in an obscure firmware update documentation too...)
