Hi,

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) getting old, but still working well for me. I put a 5770 card in it and am currently running 2 NEC 2190 UXi monitors. They display at 1600 x 1200. I am seeing these higher res screens like the 5K imac, which look great in the store and and am wondering what my options are for upgrading. Can anyone tell me if the 5770 Radeon graphics card can support a 4K screen? Do 4K screens have the option of 2 inputs? I ask because I think the max resolution of the card is 2560 x 1440 per output. Which might work if I can use the two outputs for one larger resolution screen. If that card can't handle a bigger screen, is there a card that will fit in my Mac Pro 3,1 that will work?

thanks!

Paul from Montreal

All of the early 4k screens I've looked at are controlled through the displayport 1.2 connection and MST (which has cause a number of issues).  I've never head of any using 2 separate connections.  A 2560 screen is a big step up though, I'm using a 30" and love it.  My 2nd is a 24" 1600 Dell and they work well together for me.
