Whiteout. Creemore, Ontario
« on: November 18, 2014, 09:29:47 pm »

Crikey! That looks very cold, Michael. How do you folks manage in such a cold environment! You must be looking forward to the warmer climate predicted as a result of mankind's emissions of CO2.  ;D

What catches my attention here is not only the cold and minimalist character of the shot, but the fact you took the shot with a Samsung NX1.

This camera is grabbing a lot of interest, yet there are no full and detailed reviews yet. It seems to have the potential to rival the image quality of full-frame DSLRs, partly because of its 'back-side-illuminated' sensor. In addition, it has 4k video capability, and an astounding frame rate and autofocus tracking capability.

What's lacking is a good quality telephoto zoom with a decent reach, such as the Nikkor 80-400 AFS.

When can we expect your review? And I urge you to do a comparison with some full-frame cameras.  ;)

Even winter is beautiful in Brisbane. Sunny and not too cold.  :D

Nice shot. Was the Yeti lurking around?

Paulo,
You'd probably want to look for a Sasquatch in North America!

Ray,

I've had a production NX1 now for a few days, but little chance to work with it seriously.

I have started on my review, but given the outside world at the moment, most of my test shots will be in B&W.

Review likely by early December.

We get used to it and manage to do things out of doors regardless (assuming that the snowfall is not so deep that one cannot venture out at all).  It's really not so bad as long as the winds are not too high.  Attached photo is from four 1/2 years ago when we really could not get out of the neighborhood!

I just read that Buffalo, New York has received 6 feet of snow (yes...72 inches) in the past 24 hours and there are 2-3 more feet of snow coming.

For those of you in OZ....count your blessings.

We got less than 1" here in southeast Michigan, enough to slick up the streets but not enough to prettify the neighborhood.   :(  Any snow accumulation in November is unusual here. If I remember right the last time it happened was in 1997.

Many beautiful landscape photographs make the viewer wish that they were there. This one makes the viewer glad to be somewhere else, preferably somewhere warm. Thanks. I like minimalist compositions.

And for the last how many years now, Michael has flown south for the winter to Mexico.

At first I was confused as to why he would go south for so many months but now we know!

And this year I'm going really south, to Antarctica to teach on our two back-to-back one week expeditions.

This will be my firth and sixth expeditions, and believe me, it's likely warmer there than in January than in Toronto.

There are still a few berth available. (plug)
