A fine moment, captured very nicely.
You did good people photos even way back then.

Thanks all. Wow, Slobodan, Gene Smith? I'm tremendously flattered. Back in those days I'd never heard of Gene, Henri, Walker -- any of them. Later on -- after I got back to the States -- I ran into them in various publications and fell in love.

It's kind of picture that touches your heart deep inside. I'm really impressed by that.

Nice capture.
Really human photo taken in an inhuman time for that part of the world.

Thanks all. If I remember correctly, that was the very first picture I shot with the Ikoflex after I bought it.

I like this much more than some of your later posts with "what the heck is this about" feeling. Maybe great photography appeals to everybody, not just to the connoisseurs.

This is very much a timeless picture with universal understanding....A true Classic.

... Wow, Slobodan, Gene Smith? I'm tremendously flattered...

Funny how my brain associations work, Russ. There are two Gene's images that came to my mind when I saw your photo. One is The Walk to Paradise Garden, and the other is the Minamata.

Two kids and the strong vignetting are the visual associations that link it to Paradise. The Minamata association is more complex. In terms of content, greater significance, and seriousness, it is hard to link Gene's Minamata tragedy to the cuteness of a childhood moment in your image. And yet, in terms of pure visual elements, my brain sees similarities and creates associations: vignetting, the embrace, those eyes, the bent wrist...

Better late than never...

I can only add my voice to those already spoken. Really good, Russ.

I thought of "The Walk to Paradise Garden" too, when I first looked at Russ post. Gene's is nice, but I prefer Russ's.

Thanks again, all. Having a shot compared favorably with a Gene Smith is an honor I've never before received. Having it compared with two Gene Smiths is a compliment that's almost embarrassing, but I'll probably get over the embarrassment.

Been away for a few days and only came across this shot today. What can I say that hasn't been said already!
